SCIENCE & ENGINEERING CHALLENGE HOSTED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF THE SUNSHINE COAST

On Tuesday 4th March our Year 10 cohort travelled to the University of the Sunshine Coast (Gympie campus) to compete in the Science and Engineering Challenge. The challenges that were set for the students included building balsa gliders, wind turbines, bridges, electrical networks and fish traps, to name a few. Our students worked well and represented our college with distinction.

Our students met other Year 10s from local schools and worked with industry experts from QLD Hydro, the University of the Sunshine Coast, Newcastle University, and a local Rotary Club.

Overall, our college finished in second place, narrowly beaten by St Johns College of Nambour. Well done Year 10! You have set the bar pretty high!

A big thank you to Ms Edna Sao who accompanied the class on the excursion and provided constant support and encouragement. It was a great experience!

Mr James Osborne, Science Teacher.
