Noosa Christian College

Noosa Christian College, Cooroy, officially commenced operation on January 28, 2003 with 37 students. Classes for Prep-Year 6 were temporarily held in the rooms adjoining Cooroy Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church.

Mr Ross Reid – previously a Director of School Marketing and Development for Adventist Schools Australia (ASA) and formerly Principal of Edinburgh College in Victoria was appointed to open and operate the school. The founding staff of the school also included Teachers; Jeanette Martin, Sonia Goding, Trevor Brown, Nathan Hill together with office support from Susan Muir and Kaylene Irvine.

Over its first year of operation, enrolments grew dramatically with a 25% increase within the first six months of 2003, and by year-end, NCC had 55 students – an increase of 49% on the first day.

By June 2003, NCC was able to utilise new demountable classrooms that had been acquired and fitted out over several months. These new classrooms would more comfortably house the growing number of students as plans for a much larger building program was mapped out.

Other significant developments in the first year of operation included;

  • the commencement of a private College bus run, which operated from the Sippy Downs area, through Tewantin and Noosaville
  • major road works to create the driveway and beginnings of the school carpark
  • the inaugural Parents and Friends (P&F) meeting with more than 60 attendees
  • a significant donation via ‘Friends of the College’ to enable the construction of a barn for animal husbandry
  • a library established in one end of the primary classroom block

In subsequent years the College continued to grow in student body and in physical footprint, with the building program gaining significant momentum to reflect the maturing of the school. And in 2007, NCC took another significant step forward in its development and commenced Secondary classes with the addition of Year 8.

2011 was an exciting year for NCC with the official integration of Year 7 into Secondary (High School) and it was also the year the College reached the milestone of seeing its first class of Year 12’s to graduate from High School. While only a small class of 10 – the spirit of friendship shared by these students and their teachers reflected the strong values and sense of community that makes NCC so special.

In 2017, NCC opened a new building, the Early Learning Centre which houses both Prep and Kindy classrooms and play areas and in October 2020 a new Secondary building was opened. The double-storey facility contains a commercial kitchen, eating area and servery, flexible learning areas, amenities plus much more.

Today Noosa Christian College continues in its mission to share holistic education within a community of Faith and learning. We look back at how God has blessed and guided our College over the past years, and look forward to the ways in which He will lead and guide us into the future, as we nurture and build successful pathways for our students.
